With the Citations series, I borrowed small fragments from the statement text of artist friends, which I then proceeded to paint on my canvases. The title of each work provides viewers with the source of the quotes, presented on my paintings in varying degrees of legibility. Whilst the individual citations throw an authorial conundrum, I find that showing these together also pose a threat to the boundary between individual and collective discourse. That being said, I decided to add a good variety of expressive painterly gestures on these canvases to contrast with the texts, which in a way play against a desire for self-expression.
